The National Youth Commission (NYC)
would like to remind all qualified youth
to register for the Sangguniang Kabataan
elections in their city or
municipality’s Office of the Election
Officer from 15 to 22 July.
The COMELEC has the following
qualifications for all SK voters: 1) at
least 15 but below 18 years of age on or
before October 29, 2007; 2) actually
residing in the barangay for at least 6
months on election day; and 3) not
otherwise disqualified by law.
All qualified registrants must present
any of the following documents to the
COMELEC office as proof of identity:
Certificate of Live Birth, Baptismal
Certificate, School Records and any
other document that will establish
identity and other quailification.
“Given the short time allotted for the
registration of new SK voters, we hope
that the public will help spread the
word and let more youth exercise their
rights to participate in this electoral
forum. The Sangguniang Kabataan was put
in place to allow the youth to
experience first hand local governance,
and with wider participation, we can be
assured of a good crop of potential
leaders which can serve the country,”
states NYC Chairman Richard Alvin
Nalupta, a product of the Sangguniang
Kabataan himself.
So youth leaders, this is your time to
be heard. Your participation in this
activity could very well be the
beginning of a life in public service.
